SOKE ANSHU CHRISTA JACOBSON - NINPIDEN

NINPIDEN (忍秘伝)
.
Here, I am with a Ninjutsu Densho from my private collection called the: Ninpiden. This is an official reproduction that was created from the original - which is located in the Iga Ninja Museum.
.
The Ninpiden (忍秘伝) is an authentic ninjutsu manual written by Hattori Hanzo in 1560. It is regarded as one of the three key historical texts of ninjutsu, along with the Shoninki and the Bansenshukai. It was passed down in the Hattori family, and was considered a secret transmission; it was not shared with outsiders and even within the family, few had access to it.
.
“When you go to another province on a secret mission, you may be inspected by the local people if they wonder who you are. Therefore, you need to disguise yourself when you go out so that you can move around and investigate without arousing suspicion about yourself.”
- Hattori Hanzo; Ninpiden (1560)

SOKE ANSHU CHRISTA JACOBSON - SHONINKI

SHONINKI (正 忍 記)
READ IN FULL - NINJA DENSHO
.
Here, I am with a Ninjutsu Densho from my private collection called the: Shoninki. This is an official reproduction that was created from the original - which is located in the State Library of Tokyo.
.
The Shōninki (正 忍 記) is a medieval ninja document from Kishū province. It was written by Natori Masatake in 1681 and documents the espionage/ninjutsu strategies of the shinobi from Kishū.
.
Together with the Bansenshukai and Ninpiden it is one of three major extant writings of the ninja that is researched today amoung historians and researchers.
.
Shōninki is divided into Preface (Jo), and three scrolls (Shomaki, Chumaki, Gemaki).
.
In the preface, the author discusses the different types of spies and the principles of espionage.
.
The first densho addresses basic skills, such as disguise and concealment and information gathering. The second densho deals with defense against enemy spies, human nature, physiognomy, recognizing and eliciting the true intentions of people. The third densho is concerned with one's own emotional states as well as those of other people.

Soke Anshu Christa Jacobson - Iga Ryu Ninjutsu Densho with Shuriken

IGA RYU NINJUTSU KAKUSHI NO MAKI
READ IN FULL! ... NINJA SHURIKEN
.
Here, I am with a Ninjutsu Densho from my private collection called the: Iga-ryu Ninjutsu Kakushi no maki. This is an official reproduction that was created from the original - which is located in the Iga-Ryu Ninja Museum.
.
This densho is said to be written in the 1500’s by Kawakami Hinokazu. This Densho does go by different names because of different translations. The other names attributed to this Densho are: Iga-ryu Ninjutsu Inka no maki as well as Iga-ryu Ninjutsu Kakurebi no Maki.
.
The importance of this text in the ninjutsu community is that its significance lies in its inclusion of shuriken methodology, offering a counterpoint to the prevailing assertion that ninja using shuriken are largely a product of modern embellishment through media such as manga and anime. This false propaganda of ninja not using shuriken is simply not true and is not historically accurate.
.
While major classical texts like the Bansenshukai (1676), Ninpiden (1560) and Shoninki (1681) make little or no explicit reference to shuriken as a formalized component of shinobi practice, the presence of such techniques in this lesser-known scroll suggests that regional variation and specialized methods did exist within the broader spectrum of historical ninjutsu.
.
This Ninjutsu Densho does invites an understanding: that shuriken, while perhaps not a specific secret weapon to the ninja arsenal, were, in fact, a part of the tactical repertoire in certain ninja lineages during the late Sengoku period.

Soke Anshu Christa Jacobson - The Way of the Ninja

To live by the way of the ninja, is to choose conscious living in a world that prefers sleep.
.
It is the decision to sharpen the self when comfort would dull it, to move with intention when chaos pulls at the mind. The ninja does not seek conflict, power, or recognition; they seek clarity. Every step, breath, and silence becomes a mirror reflecting one question: Am I acting from fear, or from truth?
.
The warrior’s path teaches that strength without discipline is noise, and discipline without compassion is emptiness. To walk this way is to accept hardship as a teacher, failure as refinement, and patience as a weapon sharper than any blade. The ninja learns to master the unseen battles first such as: ego, distraction and impulse - because victory in the outer world is meaningless if the inner world remains unconquered.
.
To live as a ninja is to understand that invisibility is not hiding, but humility; that adaptability is not weakness, but wisdom; and that true power is the ability to act—or not act—in perfect alignment with the moment. The warrior lives awake, aware that life itself is the dojo, time is the opponent, and the self is both student and master.
.
In this way, the path is not about fighting others, but about becoming someone who no longer needs to fight themselves.
.
