In this video I give a HUGE shout-out to one of my Ninjutsu
Black Belt Students, Ms. Jacot. It has been an honor working with her all of
these years and I am looking forward to working with her for many more years to
come! Ms. Jacot is the first female Black Belt in Budo Ryu Ninjutsu and she is
the highest ranking female student in the Budo Ryu Kai! If y’all enjoy the
ninjutsu & bujutsu lessons that I teach and you want to see a student’s
perspective on the arts that I teach, SUBSCRIBE to her channel and show her the
same love that y’all have shown me!

Tenjin
Ryū Jujutsu (天神流柔術), literally meaning "Gentle Art
of the Heavenly Divine" has it's historical roots, classical kata and training methods dating back centuries to Japans
warring past of the Sengoku period (戦国時代) and can be classified
as a traditional school of jujutsu.
It was founded by Soke Anshu Christa
Jacobson by combining all of her koryū
bujutsu (古流; classical Japanese
warrior arts) and gendai budō
(現代武道; modern martial
arts) training that she experienced during her time as an apprentice.
.
Just as in the Koka-ryu school
of Kempo,
Soke Anshu wanted to share with her
students all of the principals and strategies that was taught to her from her
masters and share that with them. She
also wanted a specific method of jujutsu
for the Budo Ryu Kai that blends,
flows and connects the other six traditions of the school together and can
adapt in any situation. The Tenjin-ryu school of jujutsu is the glue that connects the
other traditions together within the Budo
Ryu Kai.

In this video, “Survival Training within Historical
Ninjutsu”, I discuss a specific “jutsu” within the training of Tomo-ryu
Shinobijutsu called seizonjutsu.This is
a specific aspect of training within Tomo-ryu, which is much different than
that of other more popular ninjutsu ryuha such as Togakure-ryu Ninpo Taijutsu.
.
Schools such as the Bujinkan, Genbukan, Jinenkan, etc have
never formally had “survival training”, in their curriculum. There has never been a time that you see
Masaaki Hatsumi or any other “Togakure-ryu” practitioner in Japan teach:
primitive fire making, how to disinfect water while living off of the land, how
to build shelters, tracking and survival skills.Ever… They teach taijutsu, kobujutsu, etc. That is not me being disrespectful towards
them at all. That is me stating a fact.
.
I could say the same thing towards other martial arts such
as: Taekwondo, Karate, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Aikido. They do not teach
survival skills either as part of their martial art curriculum.Again, that is not me being mean or
hateful. It is me stating a fact.
.
In 2010, I started making seizonjutsu lessons and posts more
available in the public and in 2011, I wrote a book (Shinobi no Michi; The Way
of the Ninja) detailing the importance of seizonjutsu and its importance within
historical ninjutsu training. Then out of no where, all of these people that
were trashing me, from these other organizations started teaching “Seizonjutsu”.Some of them are even from some of the organizations
that I stated above.
.
In the Budo Ryu Kai, we have 7 warrior traditions and the
Togakure-ryu is one of them. There is no
“Seizonjutsu” in Togakure-ryu. I teach Togakure-ryu.Like I stated above; There are no videos or books
of Masaaki Hatsumi rubbing sticks to create primitive fire. Just look at the
Togakure-ryu densho. There is nothing at all written about primitive survival
training. However, there are many things that are specific to the Togakure-ryu,
that are not found in any other ninjutsu ryuha as well. But this post is not about Togakure-ryu, it
is about Seizonjutu, which is a specific skill within Tomo-ryu. So anyone who
is teaching Togakure-ryu and is adding “Seizonjutsu” to their curriculum got it
from watching and reading my materials…
.
I will say there is a “grey area” with survival training
within Togakure-ryu. As a teacher of the Togakure-ryu, I help many other
teachers of this particular ryuha and they ask me many questions. The reason
that “Seizonjutsu” is NOT within the Togakure-ryu is because they have a set of
teachings called the TenChiJin and the individual skills, such as use of water
(suiton) use of fire (katon) and so on are found in the TenChiJin.So if you are a Togakure-ryu instructor.Your survival teachings (if you are sticking
to the densho) would be in the TenChiJin aspect of training. So if you teach
the Togakure-ryu, shouldn’t call it Seizonjutsu, you should be calling it what
is written in the densho, and that aspect of part of the TenChiJin.

Koka Ryu Kempo
(甲賀流拳法) was
constructed by Soke Anshu Christa
Jacobson as a system for self-improvement, self-discipline and
self-protection.Soke Anshu trained in many different kenpo / kempo systems and
wanted to compile all of her training into one practice of kempo calling it, Koka-ryu
Kempo. The Art of Koka-ryu Kempo is a direct
lineage of Kosei Ryu Kempo
which originated from the Shiga prefecture of Japan, also known as Koka.
.
In 2006 Soke Anshu inherited the art of Kosei-ryu
Kempo, making her the 4thSoke within its lineage. However; since she was already teaching kempo as part of the Budo Ryu Kai curriculum, she had to make
a choice. To either cut out all of the kempo teachings that are not Kosei-ryu, and only teach the Kosei-ryu methods, or to take the art of
Kosei-ryu Kempo that she inherited,
and combine it with her other kempo
training and experiences.
.
Soke
Anshu decided to combine all of her kempo
training, principals, and strategies together under the Budo Ryu banner; constructing the art of Koka-ryu Kempo.Since Kosei-ryu came from the Shiga prefecture
of Japan, and it’s the fundamental
base of the Budo Ryu kempo
curriculum, it is only fitting to have named the kempo training Koka-ryu Kempo
which translates out as: “Koka School of Fist Fighting”.

In this video, “How To Walk Silently In Water Like a Ninja”.
I explain some of the secrets of walking through low level water ways, utilizing
ninjutsu stealth training techniques. This lesson covers “Nuki Ashi” (Sweeping
Foot) which is one of the methods of ninja silent walking (Shinobi Aruki)
within classical shinobijutsu: suiton/suiton-no-jutsu training.

In this video I teach how to train in traditional martial
arts and how to make it work for the modern world of self-defense.There are so many so called “Ninjutsu” or “Bujutsu”
schools of classical martial arts that say (claim) that they are teaching
methods of martial arts that fit in the modern day, when the facts are, they
are not. They are lying to make money,
and they know it.
.
In the video you will hear me talk about “henka”. Yes many
classical dojo / koryu schools of budo/ninpo do henka. The difference is that their henka is still set
within the 15th century.They
are not applying the principals, strategies and philosophies of the kata (that
they claim to be a master of) in the modern world of self defense.Instead of mastering the arts that they claim
to be dedicated too, they study “koryu” and then do modern martial arts such as
Krav Maga or Systema for the “Self-Defense”.To all of “1st degree masters” that do this: You should be embarrassed
of yourself and you should apologize to the warrior arts that you claim to be
so dedicated to.
.
The facts are, there is no martial art that is better than
another.They were all made for
different reasons at different times in history. The best thing to do is fine a martial art
that like you (regardless of what it is), find a master that will teach you,
and dedicate yourself to the mastery of that art.
