In this video I discuss the method of how we utilize “henka”
in our martial arts training at the Budo Ryu Kai.
.
Henka (変化) means: change; variation; alteration; mutation; transition; transformation;
transfiguration; metamorphosis.
.
In this video I detail the image of a tree and how the seed represents
the kata. If you train correctly and
nurture good skills, you will grow a solid foundation and have strong
roots. From that, the tree will grow
branches, limbs and leaves. This is the
henka. Just as the branches and limbs
are the variations and changes from the seed/root, the henka are the variations
/ changes from the kata. From here, you get the fruit. This is the useable materials for survival
and nourishment. This is where we derive
the goshinjutsu (reality based self defense) from the variation to help with
our martial arts self defense training.
.
This lesson is directly for the practitioners of the ancient
Japanese koryu martial arts of the ninja and samurai, such as ninjutsu (ninpo)
and bujutsu (budo).
